Guest House

A unique, bespoke, completely private Guest House, that is totally off-grid.

With rainwater, solar electricity and our awesome compost toilet (which is NOT a pit latrine). Tucked away in an indigenous forest and the secluded, comfortable, eco-cottage overlooks the Gonubie River valley
Just a stone's throw from East London South Africa, with easy access to the airport (King Phalo Airport) and a mere 15min drive to the beach. 
You are welcome to take a tour of the farm and systems, harvest your own organic vegetables, or just relax on the swing bench on the forest deck.
The cottage can sleep 3; with a double bed upstairs on the mezzanine and a new sleeper couch downstairs for an additional person.

Courses

Every 4 months or so, we offer a comprehensive 1 day Homesteading Course, here in East London. A full day cover a wide range of topics, including;
- Sustainable farming system (permaculture, syntropic agroforesty and regen)
- Off-grid options (solar, rainwater and grey water)
- Water systems (harvesting, storing and pumping)
- Animal husbandry (cows, sheep, pigs, rabbits, chickens, ducks and livestock gaurdian dogs)
- Fruit & veg (food forests, market gardens)
- Biochar and worm farming
- Compost toilets (in situ, dual bay model)
- Composting (thermophilic and fungal dominant bio reactors)

Internship

We offer a few different Internship options.
Minimum 2 weeks
Housed in the Loft with it's own kitchen and living area.
Get hands-on experience with a wide range of livestock and farming systems.
Do a deep dive into homesteading and experience first hand the nuances, challenges and joys of homesteading, here on the East Coast of South Africa.

Cost
Non-South Africans $120 per week (Including pick-up, all meals and accommodation and handbook).

In 2025 we finally launched our compost toilet handbook.
Specifically the In situ, non urine separator, dual bay composting toilet.
More than 60 pages of detailed info, anicdotes, tips, tricks, plans and case studies.
